WHAT TO DRINK WHEN TRAVELLING

Travel changes your routine.

Early flights. Long days. Different climates. More walking. Less sleep. A hotel breakfast instead of your usual morning routine.

And somewhere between the airport, the taxi and the first place you stop, drinking enough can become an afterthought.

So what should you actually drink when you’re travelling?

Start with water

It sounds obvious, but it works.

Water should be the foundation of everyday hydration, particularly when you’re travelling in a warm climate or spending more time outdoors.

Keep a bottle with you and make drinking part of your routine rather than waiting until you’re thirsty.

But water isn’t everything you need..

When electrolytes can make sense

Travel doesn’t automatically mean you need electrolytes.

But there are situations where an electrolyte drink can be a useful addition.

Think long days in the heat, lots of walking, physical activity, time outdoors or situations where you’re sweating more than usual.

Electrolytes are minerals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium that your body uses every day. Sweat can cause you to lose some of them, which is why electrolyte drinks are often associated with exercise and hot weather.

The key is matching the drink to the moment.

Don’t forget the flight

Air travel is its own kind of routine disruption.

You’re sitting for hours, your normal schedule is off, and it’s easy to get caught up in films, work or simply getting from A to B.

Rather than overthinking it, keep things simple:

Drink water regularly. Don’t rely on thirst alone. Keep a drink within reach.

And if you’re travelling onwards into a hot climate or heading straight into an active day, having an electrolyte drink available can be useful.

Choose something you’ll actually enjoy

This is underrated.

If the only drinks you associate with hydration taste overly sweet, medicinal or like something from a sports locker room, it’s easy to stop thinking about hydration altogether.

That’s one reason we created Hydrate.

Coconut water gives the drink a naturally refreshing base. Real fruit brings flavour. Carbonation gives it a crisp finish. Electrolytes add another dimension to the drink.

It’s made to fit into real life.

At the airport. By the pool. After a long walk through a new city. Before heading out for the evening. Or simply when you want something cold and refreshing.

Hydration is part of the journey

Travel is about getting somewhere new.

But the moments in between matter too.

The first drink after landing. The pause between exploring and heading out again. The cold can after a long day outside. The moment you finally sit down. Those are the moments we think about when we say:

Between two breaths.

Hydration doesn’t need to interrupt the journey.

It can simply be part of it.

A simple travel checklist

Bring water.
Keep something to drink within reach.

Think about the climate.
Hot weather and more activity can mean more fluid and electrolyte losses.

Keep electrolytes in mind.
They can be useful during periods of increased sweating.

Read the label.
Know what you’re actually drinking.

Choose something you enjoy.
Because hydration is easier when you actually want the drink.
